back home

well, i am back from liberia and without serious injury or parasites (to my knowledge). i'm adjusting fairly well i would say, but you never know what could reduce you to tears or shouting at a moment's notice...

i am certain of one thing though. i'm grateful for this amazing experience. many people never see what i've seen in their entire lives. i am blessed by the wisdom, relationships, and grace i've come across.

my reason for continuing this blog, other than for the prupose of including info from liberia since i wasn't able to blg while there, is to record for those interested some of my observations/experiences. when i returned from morocco, i felt the need to broadcast to the world what had happened. i don't feel like this now, i guess it's maturity (?) or perhaps just reality. i know everyone doesn't want to hear all about every cool thing, and it actually is very annoying at times. so i want to stay away from that and just have this for the people who want to know.

so where to start with liberia?

i was asked in late august to go to liberia to help write proposals for some food programs they wanted to get started up there. this was an exciting prospect, as i wasn't really doing much of substance in uganda. so i flew into monrovia on sept 11. a little ominous, but i knew right away i'd love this place. we drove straight from the airport to my house, on the beach. i was amazed. couldn't believe i'd be spending the next 2 months on the coast.

i really don't know why they specifically asked me to come to liberia because i'm definitely not experienced in food work, no more than any other joe off the street. but it turned out i was the only one available! i'll take that...

liberia is an incredibly complex place, a subject which i hope to explore further in later posts. right now is an awesome time in the country's history.

more on liberia/SP later.
