ok, so i'm starting to see that being "politically correct" doesn't rank too high up there in africa...

i know this because whenever i walk down the street in our town, a million little children shout out, "bye, muzungu!!" muzungu means "white man". they will not stop shouting this until i turn around and wave or shout back. i just imagine someone shouting "bye, white man!" - or something equally as offensive in america and the response it would illicit there. funny.

but it's not just the kids, either. the adults do it too. maybe that's where the kids get it. they address me as muzungu like it was my name. it doesn't really bother me, it was just a shock when i first heard it.

africans apparently have no problem laughing at someone when they trip or fall. they think it's great fun to have a good laugh at another's stupidity or accident. maybe we americans just take ourselves too seriously. i'm gonna try that when i get back, laughing hysterically as someone busts on the sidewalk...
